Renowned musician, journalist and documentary maker Moana Maniapoto (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Tūhourangi, Ngāti Pikiao), Jared Savage (New Zealand Herald reporter, author of Gangland and Gangster’s Paradise), and Tony Wall (Stuff’s Investigative Reporter and former National Correspondent) will discuss the latest scoops, features and feel-good stories leading the morning news. They will cast an informed and critical eye over what is stirring up our nation and reflect back in real time. About the Speakers
Moana Maniapoto MNZM (Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Tuhourangi, Ngāti Pikiao) is a journalist and singer-songwriter. A self-confessed ‘political junkie’ who has never shied away from pushing boundaries. With partner Toby Mills, she has made award-winning documentaries exploring Māori topics and people. Her television show Te Ao with Moana won best current affairs series at the 2021 Voyager Media Awards. As leader of bands Moana and the Moahunters, and Moana & the Tribe she has toured the world fusing traditional Māori and modern sounds. She became an Arts Foundation Laureate in 2007 and was inducted into the APRA NZ Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

Jared Savage is an investigative reporter for the New Zealand Herald who has won more than a dozen journalism awards, including twice being named the Reporter of the Year. He is also the author of two books, Gangland and Gangster’s Paradise, about the evolution of organised crime in New Zealand.

Tony Wall, born in Hokitika and raised in Christchurch, National Correspondent Tony Wall has worked as a journalist since 1990. He was a crime and investigations reporter for the New Zealand Herald, crime reporter for the Daily Telegraph in Sydney, and investigations and features writer for the Sunday Star-Times. In 2009, he fronted a new crime show on TVNZ, Illegal NZ, which used hidden cameras to expose trading in guns, steroids and degrees. He has been a finalist for Reporter of the Year at the NZ Media Awards seven times, winning three. He has also been Feature Writer of the Year twice.
