Nicky Pellegrino talks food, travel, Italy and writing to escape...
Nicky Pellegrino was the shy, half-English cousin among her exuberant Italian relatives who, nonetheless, kept her eyes and ears open. When she decided to write her first novel it was the memories of Italy – food, climate, passion, landscape – that inspired her. Nicky regularly visits Italy for research but hesitates to describe her life (which includes a husband, dogs and horses) as ‘La Dolce Vita’. Her nine novels – Under Italian Skies was published in April – have been translated into 12 languages. Our morning tea literary event is catered by Spongedrop Cakery with an Italian flavour.
“So much to love about this book. I love the way the food makes you salivate for Italy. I love the matrix of complicated women that interfere in each other’s lives….Reading this felt like a welcome ticket to southern Italy.” Stuff.co.nz
